CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin said on Saturday that if voted to power, Velachery lake would be desilted and boating would be introduced in the lake by the DMK government.
The DMK government would also disburse a one-time financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per ration card on M Karunanidhi’s 97th birth anniversary on June 3, he said while speaking at Velachery.
He said the victory of the DMK was a foregone conclusion. He said the election was not merely for unseating the AIADMK, but also for regaining the state’s autonomy, rights and self-respect. “This is the land of Periyar, Anna and Kalaignar. Modi Masthan (gimmicks of black magician) will not work out here,” he said.
Earlier, he campaigned in Kolathur constituency, from where he is contesting.
Thanga Tamilselvan ungrateful: EPS
Quoting Thiruvalluvar’s couplet beginning with “Nandri Marapathu Nandrandru’’ (being ungrateful is bad), chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said in Theni that people should ensure that the ungrateful Thanga Tamilselvan, who was contesting against deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam, loses his deposit.
Campaigning for AIADMK and alliance candidates, he said the DMK’s Thanga Tamilselvan would have been a nobody if not for the recognition given by late chief minister J Jayalalithaa. “He became MLA and MP due to the hard work of AIADMK cadres. He has forgotten that now and joined hands with the DMK,’’ he said.
He campaigned at Kanyakumari for the Lok Sabha election, assured that the International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) will not be esablished at Kanyakumari with BJP candidate and former Union minister for shipping Pon Radhakrishnan present along. Pon Radhakrishnan was taking efforts to establish the ICTT at more than Rs 20,000 during his tenure till 2019.
