Chronic stress is one of the leading causes of delay in menstruation in women. Stress can sometimes lead to inadequate menstrual flow. Experts say that stress affects the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that releases hormones that stimulate estrogen production and the ovulation process. Your menstrual flow may be delayed or may not occur during ovulation. Stress can change your routine. Over time stress can lead to illness or sudden weight gain or loss, all of which can affect your menstrual cycle.

Periods delay, too much weight loss

Women with eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia may also delay menstrual bleeding. If you suddenly lose a great deal of weight, it can lead to delayed menstrual bleeding. Research say that weight loss can imbalance luteinizing and follicle-stimulating hormones in the body. This requires the maturation and release of ovarian follicles during ovulation. Just as low weight causes hormonal changes, so does overweight.

Period delay When exercising more

In young athletes and ballet dancers, menstruation becomes delayed. But it should never be taken lightly. Experts say your body burns a lot of calories when you exercise too much. If you do not eat enough to supply all those calories your body will go into a state of hunger. After that, your body stops ovulating. So you should note that exercise can delay your menstruation.

Periods delay When sleep time changes

If you leave your normal time and try to sleep at a different time, tend to work late into the night or change your sleep time, it will affect menstruation. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, women who sleep and wake up 2 hours later than bedtime become late Periods. Another study published in the peer-reviewed, open-access journal Frontiers in Endocrinology has suggested that circadian rhythms have a direct correlation with a woman’s reproductive hormones and her menstrual cycle.

Periods delay in Birth control pills

If you stop taking birth control pills, it is common for Periods to become unattractive. Birth control pills prevent your body from producing hormones for ovulation or pregnancy. When you stop taking pills your body takes some time to regain or re-balance its normal function. It can take a few weeks to a few months to get back to your normal cycle. Remember, women can become pregnant even if they use birth control correctly. It’s best to talk to your doctor about this though.
