Two men arrested for robbing Puducherry women of gold jewellery, cash | Puducherry News – Times of India


PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry police arrested two men who robbed a woman and her mother of 36 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 19,000 in cash at knifepoint after tying them. Within three hours of crime, the police arrested the accused, Iyyanar of Lawspet and Abinesh of Kottakuppan in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, and recovered the stolen jewellery and cash.
Police said S Prema, 32, of Lawspet and her mother S Pushpalatha, 56, were in their house when two masked men entered the house and overpowered them. The robbers threatened them at knifepoint and tied their limbs using bedsheets. The robbers also blindfolded and covered their mouths using bedsheets.
Prema had bought 36 sovereign gold jewellery for her wedding to be held on August 20 and kept them in a safe. The robbers managed to trace the jewellery and Rs 19,000 in cash and escaped. After a long struggle, Prema freed herself and called her cousin over mobile for help.
She lodged a complaint with the Lawspet police. She gave a clue that one of the masked men looked like a youth who learnt typewriting from her mother’s institute. The police nabbed him and his aide. They confessed to robbing the women of their valuables and cash. The recovered jewellery and cash were handed over to Prema.
