Threat of 3rd wave looms large as people ignore norms in Hubballi | Hubballi News – Times of India

HUBBALLI: Even as experts are warning against letting one’s guard down on the Covid front with a third wave just around the corner, people seem to be ignoring Covid protocol.
For instance, when chief minister Basavaraj Bommai was in Hubballi last week, hundreds of people gathered to greet him ignoring the Covid guidelines issued by the government.
With curbs eased, people are seen shopping and travelling without masks in the city.
Dharwad deputy commissioner Nitesh Patil said they are trying their best to create awareness among the public and enforce Covid protocol in public places. “People should also cooperate with the authorities by wearing masks and maintaining social distance to curb the virus spread,” he added. It is also the responsibility of political parties in the interest of public, they should adhere to the Covid protocols strictly, he said.
“Additional powers have been given to the DCs to enforce restrictions. If and when there is a fear of surge in Covid cases in the district, we will enforce tough rules,” he added.
According to sources, the district administration has deployed marshals to enforce Covid protocol and to fine people if they are found violating guidelines.
“I will speak to the HDMC officials and police department to enforce strict Covid guidelines and fine if people fail to fall in line,” he added.
Former MLA Madhu Bangarappa, who was in Hubballi to join Congress, said that huge gatherings should not be held amid the pandemic. “People throng such events and situations turn out of control, which creates more troubles,” he had said.
