Thane: Falling boulders smash huts at Kalwa | Thane News – Times of India

THANE: At least six houses were damaged after a landslide was reported along the Indira Nagar slums located along the Parsik hill slopes, Kalwa, late on Saturday.
No one was injured in the incident, said civic officials. The incident occurred around 9.30 pm when residents heard a huge noise and came out of their shanties to see a huge boulder tumbling down the mountain. Luckily, the movement of the debris stopped near the hill plains else it could have wreaked havoc as there was a dense settlement downhill, said locals.
“The residents raised an alarm following which others managed to leave their homes as another set of boulders started rolling down on the hutments damaging atleast six of them. This could have been a repeat of the Gholai Nagar mishap had the incident happened late in the night or had the boulders started tumbling further down,” feared a local, Anil Jadhav pointing to the cluster of shanties right beneath. Meanwhile, nearly 25 houses were evacuated and residents were shifted to a nearby civic school.
