THANE: In what could have been a major mishap, the slab of a building collapsed in Ulhasnagar town of Maharashtra’s Thane district on Saturday, sending locals into a tizzy.
However, no injuries or casualties have been reported.
The incident took place in camp number 4 of Ulhasnagar, when a portion of the three-storeyed Venkat Sadan residential structure in Subhash Tekdi area came crashing down amid heavy rains.
Fire brigade personnel and officials of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) reached the spot as soon as the mishap was reported.
“The building already inhabited very few people and hence, there was no loss of life and property. The structure has now been evacuated and the residents have been moved to a safer place,” UMC public relations officer Yuvraj Bhadane informed TOI Online.
In the last three months, as many as 12 persons have lost their lives in Ulhasnagar after portions of two buildings collapsed in two separate incidents.
Several persons were injured and three buildings were also evacuated after some portions of them had crashed.
