Telangana to provide free Covid-19 vaccine to all above 18 years | Hyderabad News - Times of India

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has decided to provide free Covid-19 vaccine for all above 18 years.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said the government would spend about Rs 2,500 crore for the vaccination programmes targeted at those aged above 18 years that will begin on May 1.
Many states, including the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh government, announced free vaccination in their respective states.
The CM on Saturday announced that in addition to Telangana state’s own population, those who migrated to the state from different states and working in different sectors would get free vaccination.
It is estimated there are about 4 crore population in the state and of them about 35 lakh have already been vaccinated.
The rest would be covered in the free vaccination drive, KCR said.
“Considering the importance of lives of the people, it is worth spending Rs 2500 crore to vaccinate everyone,” the chief minister said and asked chief secretary Somesh Kumar and health department officers to make arrangements to administer vaccination to all.
He said Hyderabad-based Bharath Biotech has been manufacturing vaccines and several other pharma giants, including Reddy Labs, are coming forward to produce vaccines.
Hence there would be dearth for vaccination.
“I will hold a high- level review meeting with officials on a free vaccination programme after undergoing necessary medical tests and after completely recovering,” Chandrasekhar Rao, who is currently under isolation after he had tested positive for Covid-19 said. He said he would personally monitor vaccination programs.
In addition to the vaccination programme, KCR said necessary steps would be taken to see that there is no shortage of Remdesivir and other medicines and oxygen required for treating Covid 19.
He assured that the government would go all out to protect people from corona and there is no need to panic.
“The government will ensure availability of beds in hospitals and medicines,” he assured and asked the officials to take up large scale sanitation drives in the state.
He appealed to the people to stay away from mass gatherings and participation in processions. He said unless it is absolutely necessary, not to come out of their homes and observe self-discipline.
“Welfare of people is very important to the government and it will do all that can be done to protect them from corona,” the CM stated.
