Telangana Rashtra Samithi govt should publish white paper on budget allocated, spent for minorities’ welfare: Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir | Hyderabad News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir has accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government of not spending the allocated budget for the welfare of minorities.
The Congress leader alleged that the per capita expenditure on minorities’ welfare in Telangana was just Rs 147 per month.
“Not even 15 per cent of the Rs 1,602 crore allocated in the budget for the financial year 2021-22 has been released in the last five months. The TRS government has allocated Rs 11,052 crore for minorities welfare in annual budgets from 2014-15 to 2021-22. But the government has released only Rs 5,772.51 crore in the last seven years,” he alleged.
The Muslim population is about 48.45 lakh which is about 13 per cent of the total population in the state.
Even if the overall spending on minorities’ welfare is rounded off to Rs 6,000 crore, the TRS government has spent only Rs 147 per month on each Muslim in the state, Shabbir Ali said.
“How can Muslims achieve growth, get education and jobs, start a business, protect Wakf properties, promote Urdu and carry out other welfare activities with a monthly budget of Rs 147 per person,” he sought to ask chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao?.
Shabbir Ali sought to remind CM KCR that the Commission of Inquiry on Socio-Economic and Educational Conditions of Muslims headed by retired IAS officer TS Sudhir submitted its report to the government five years ago on August 12, 2016 with several recommendations for the welfare of Muslims.
“The Sudhir Commission report revealed that a large section of STs and Muslims have never attended any school. The drop rate was higher among Muslims in highr education, poor access to health facilities, poverty and slum-like conditions of living. Over 40 per cent Muslims were living in rented accommodation, only 19.2 per cent of the Muslims were regular salaried and 16.4 per cent are self-employed in non-agricultural activities,” he said.
Shabbir Ali demanded that the TRS government should come out with minority bandhu for even the minority community on the lines of Dalit Bandhu scheme.
