Telangana power utilities reaches record peak power load | Hyderabad News - Times of India

HYDERABAD: With the rise in temperatures in Telangana, the power demand has reached record peak on Wednesday. The Telangana power utilities reached 13,688 mega watts demand which is a record in the state.
According to officials, the power highest demand recorded was 13,168 MW in February, 2020. In the Greater Hyderabad limits, the power demand has touched 2,760 MW from 1,700 MW earlier. Interestingly, the discoms have been supplying 30 MW each to three data centres of Amazon without any interruption.
“Though we have received the highest power demand, our utilities met the demand without any problem. For the agriculture sector alone 5,000 MW of power is being supplied. Telangana is the only state to supply highest power for the agriculture sector that too 24×7,” Telangana chairman and managing director D Prabhakar Rao said. He said the power utilities were ready to supply more power if the demand continues to rise without compromising on the quality of power.
Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) chairman and managing director G Raghumareddy said power utilization is increasing in the GHMC due to rise in temperatures. “We are expecting the power load to touch 3,000 MW in GHMC limits. The discom is geared up to meet the demand,” the CMD said.
The Transco officials said apart from agriculture season demand, power demand has gone up as the pumps of Kaleshwaram project lifting water. The officials said with more industries coming up in the state, the industrial power consumption is likely to go up in the coming up.
On the recent cyber-attack on state power utilities load dispatch centre, Transco joint managing director Srinivas Rao said they were alert and in touch with the Centre power authorities.
