HYDERABAD: Nalgonda police have registered cases against 19 people for not wearing masks during the Nagarjunasagar byelection campaign.
“Police would take stern action against anyone for not wearing a mask while campaigning for the poll that is to be held on April 17,” DIG and Nalgonda SP AV Ranganath said.
Among the 19 people against whom cases were registered on April 8 include seven of the ruling TRS, six each of the Congress and BJP.
Of the total cases, three were registered in Halia, three in Nidamanur, two in Tripuraram, three in Vijayapuri town, two in Peddapur and two in Tirumalagiri Sagar.
Ranganath said no meetings could be held without permission and Covid guidelines will have to be adhered to, including wearing masks.
“Several senior leaders of all parties are campaigning in the elections and we advise them to wear masks and also urge the public and their supporters to do the same,” he added.
Those not wearing masks will be prosecuted under sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and also under section 188 IPC.
