Tamil Nadu: Sub-inspector placed under suspension for seeking bribe to release seized vehicle in Dindigul | Madurai News – Times of India

MADURAI: A sub-inspector attached to Sanarpatti police station in Dindigul district was placed under suspension for demanding Rs 2000 as bribe to release a two-wheeler that was seized for lockdown violation.
The Dindigul Range DIG S Muthusamy ordered suspension of the police officer based on a request by the district superintendent of police Ravali Priya.
A police officer said that Balamurugan, 32, from Kalvelipatti near Natham approached the police officials to get his vehicle back.
Vasu, the sub-inspector, who called up Balamurugan over phone asked him to pay Rs 2000 a bribe to release the vehicle without registering a case.
Though he did not accept the bribe directly, Vasu asked Balamurugan to pay the money to a person known to him.
Balamurugan recorded the phone call and circulated it among his friends. Soon, it was posted on social media.
Ravali Priya launched an inquiry on the issue.
DIG Muthusamy issued the suspension order on Monday
