Tamil Nadu releases RTE school admission schedule | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu school education department on Wednesday released the schedule for RTE admissions in private schools for 2021-22. As per the schedule, the parents can apply online at rte.tnschools.gov.in from July 5 to August 3.
Officials expect more applications under this category this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As per the Right to Education (RTE) Act, private schools have to reserve 25% seats at entry level to socially and economically backward students in the neighbourhood. The directorate of matriculation schools said students living within one km radius of the private school can apply under the RTE Act. Last year, 1.15 lakh seats were available in 8,000 private schools in the state.
Parents with less than Rs 2 lakh annual income can apply under the economically weaker section.
For socially disadvantaged sections, all communities except the OCs are eligible to apply. The state government also gives preference to disabled children, wards of sanitary workers and HIV infected in RTE admissions.
School education secretary Kakarla Usha asked the private schools to prepare details like entry level intake and 25% seats reserved under the RTE Act on June 24.
Private schools shall display the number of seats on the school notice board and upload the details on the school education department’s website by July 2. Online applications can be registered from July 5 to August 3.
Schools also need to display the eligible applicants and names of ineligible applicants, reasons for rejections separately by August 9.
If the eligible applicants are more than the available seats under the RTE quota, then the schools should select students under random selection. The random selection should be conducted on August 10. The names of selected applicants with the wait list of five seats per section need to be displayed immediately on the notice board.
