Tamil Nadu: Oil on road cleaned with foam to avoid accidents | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Traffic was disrupted at Adyar for more than three hours on Thursday morning after a tanker carrying oil to Puducherry overturned. The oil spilled on to the road making the surface slippery before fire and rescue services personnel stepped in.
Police said the accident occurred around 2am and that the truck was carrying oil used for manufacturing soaps from a company at Medavakkam to Puducherry. “When the vehicle reached Durgabai Deshmukh Road, the driver lost control of the vehicle. It hit a median and overturned,” a police officer said.
Driver Ramlal, from Haryana, sustained injuries on the head and legs, and is undergoing treatment at RGGGH. Police said his condition was stable.
Police said the driver told them that the road was slippery due to rain, but police suspect the driver may have fallen asleep while at the wheel.
The Adyar traffic investigation police cordoned off the area to avoid further accidents as the road was slippery. Sand was sprinkled on the road and fire and rescue services personnel cleaned the surface with foam to prevent vehicles from skidding. The truck was stabilized using a huge crane and the vehicle was yet to be cleared from the spot on Thursday night. Vehicles proceeding towards Marina were diverted and motorists had a tough time crossing the stretch due to the congestion.
