Tamil Nadu lockdown extension: Schools, colleges to reopen on Sept 1 | Chennai News – Times of India


CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday announced reopening of schools for classes IX, X, XI and XII from September 1. All colleges will be reopened on September 1 following a rotational basis.
Noon meal scheme will be permitted for the classes following standard operating procedures. “Reopening of the kindergarten sections, and the classes from 1 to 8 from September 15 will be discussed and announced, after monitoring these higher sections,” said chief minister M K Stalin said, while announcing the extension of lockdown by two weeks ending September 6.
Since the existing lockdown ends at 6am on August 23, the chief minister held a meeting with the officials and ministers on inter-state, intra-state spread of virus, the impact in the neighbouring states, lockdown restrictions, awareness on vaccination besides the virus containment measures.
Diploma courses, polytechnic colleges will also be allowed on a rotational basis. The chief minister said the teachers and non-teaching staff of the colleges should have been vaccinated.
Following the standard operating procedures, the theatres across the state will be permitted to operate with 50% occupancy rate. The proprietors will have to make sure the staff got vaccinated.
Public will be permitted in beaches. The commissioners of the respective corporations, and respective district collectors will have to ensure the traders and the staff in the outlets in the beaches were vaccinated.
Zoological parks, botanical gardens and boat houses will be permitted.
All shops will be allowed to operate till 10pm.
IT/ITES firms can operate with 100% workforce.
Anganwadis will be permitted to supply meals from September 1. The district collectors will have to ensure the staff got vaccinated.
Inter-state public bus transport will be permitted to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Crèches will be allowed and the staff members should have been vaccinated.
Swimming pools will be allowed only for sports training. Only 50% trainers will be allowed. Trainers and trainees above 18 years should have been vaccinated.
The employment training programmes of the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation and Women Development Corporation will be permitted.
Liquor bars (FL2, FL3) will be permitted in hotels and recreation clubs.
