Tamil Nadu cooperative minister alleges irregularities in crop loans during AIADMK rule | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu cooperative minister I Periasamy on Wednesday alleged that the government had found irregularities in crop loans in cooperative societies during the previous AIADMK government.
The cooperative department had been told to issue certificates of waiver to the farmers after a thorough check of disbursement of loans, he said.
The minister was responding to opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami’sn remark that the government was still to issue waiver certificates to the farmers after his previous regime announced waiver of Rs 12,110 crore crop loan obtained in the cooperative societies.
“They (the previous AIADMK government) announced in haste, but Nabard has given only Rs 5,000 crore. All banks should be thoroughly investigated since we received huge complaints,” the minister said.
Periasamy alleged irregularities in disbursement of Rs 201 crore in 133 societies, Rs 108 crore in 229 societies and Rs 11 crore in 155 societies.
“Of Rs 12,110 crore, Rs 1,350 crore was waived in Salem alone and another Rs 1,055 crore in Erode. In all, Rs 2,400 crore waived in two districts alone. About 2,500 sovereigns of gold missing in a cooperative society in Swamimalai near Kumbakonam and Rs 11.6 lakh had been repaid. There was no action taken till 2021,” the minister said.
Earlier, Palaniswami said the AIADMK government had waived Rs 17,428 crore of crop loan in the last five years, including Rs 5,318.7 crore waived by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
