Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Tuesday sought a report from Chennai district election officer on a complaint from the AIADMK against DMK Chepauk-Triplicane candidate Udhayanidhi Stalin for wearing a shirt with DMK symbol and flag to polling booths. The AIADMK sought his disqualification.
The AIADMK advocate wing’s petition said it is a blatant violation of code of conduct. Action will be taken based on the report from the DEO, Sahoo said.
The EC also issued a notice to Udhayanidhi over his March 31 statement that “former Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj died unable to tolerate the torture by PM Narendra Modi”. He is to submit his explanation by 5pm on Wednesday.
BJP national women’s wing president and Coimbatore South candidate Vanathi Srinivasan was also in trouble as had a lotus (BJP symbol) badge pinned on her sari when she voted. Congress candidate from the constituency Mayura Jayakumar demanded her disqualification.
