Jaijeet Singh, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief told the media persons in a press briefing on Tuesday that arrested Police officer Sachin Vase lied to them when his statement was recorded in connection with the murder case of Thane-based trader Mansukh hiren.

Hiren’s Scorpio car was found laden with gelatin sticks outside Antilia last month after it was stolen. A few days later, on March 6, Hiren’s body was found at Mumbra Creek in a suspicious condition and several handkerchiefs stuffed in his mouth under the mask.

Following which based on the complaint of Hiren’s wife Vimla, the Maharashtra ATS had registered an FIR for murder, criminal conspiracy, destroying evidence on March 7 and had named Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze as a suspect.

According to the ATS, on March 8, Vaze’s statement was recorded and during which he had refuted all the allegations against him.

Singh said, “Vaze said in his statement that the explosive-laden Scorpio in question was not in his custody and he did not have any kind of relations with Mansukh Hiren. Also, he said he has no involvement in the murder case of Hiren and doesn’t have any information about it. However, during the investigation of ATS, evidence has been gathered which proves that he gave a false statement and probe is one to ascertain his role in the murder case.”

During the probe, the police have arrested two persons Vinayak Shinde, a suspended police constable, and one Naresh Gor, a bookie in connection with the murder case of Hiren. Vinayak Shinde was arrested in the fake encounter case of Lakhan Bhaiyya and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was recently released on parole due to Covid-19.

It has been revealed during the probe that the SIM cards used in the plot to kill Hiren was bought in the name of a company in Gujarat.

In further investigation, bookie Naresh Gore provided a SIM card to Vinayak Shinde at the behest of Vaze. Gore got a total of 14 SIM cards from a person in Gujarat. Shinde started some of these SIM cards and gave them to other accomplices. Shinde had called Hiren to the spot using the same SIM card.

It is learned that they have destroyed some SIM cards and phones.

Shinde and Gore were arrested on March 21 after his involvement became clear. It is learned that the SIM card was purchased in the name of a company in Gujarat. Also, the person who provided the SIM card was arrested by the ATS and brought to Mumbai on Tuesday.

ATS has seized a Volvo car from Diu Daman and forensic investigation is underway.

The ATS also claimed that while Shinde was directly involved in the assassination, Vaze was key conspirator in the case.

The ATS will soon take the custody of Vaze, the main accused in the Mansukh Hiren murder case. Vaze, who is in the custody of the (NIA), will be produced in the court on the 25th and the ATS is likely to demand his custody in the court.

ATS said, His transfer warrant has also been obtained from the Thane Magistrate. ATS chief said the exact motive behind the killing would be clarified after Vaze’s capture.

It has also come to light that Vaze and his accomplices involved in Mansukh Hiren’s murder destroyed CCTV footage of the office, premises and several routes. Singh also said that Vaze’s inquiry would reveal the motive behind this. The suspects are also under investigation and some more people are likely to be arrested.
