CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu governor-designate R N Ravi will be sworn in as 26th governor of Tamil Nadu at Raj Bhavan on Saturday.
Chief Justice of the Madras high court Justice Sanjib Banerjee will administer oath of office to Ravi. The swearing in ceremony will take place in the lawns of Raj Bhavan due to Covid-19 norms.
Ravi was born at Patna in Bihar. He holds a master’s degree in physics and has had a brief stint in journalism before becoming an IPS officer of Kerala cadre in 1976. He held positions in the CBI, the country’s premier investigative agency, and in the IB, the premier intelligence agency.
According to an official release from Raj Bhavan, Ravi, who specialised in the dynamics of human migration in South Asia, worked extensively on the political sociology of border population. He played a crucial role in conflict resolutions in areas affected with ethnic insurgencies. “He was the architect of India’s international cooperation in counter terrorism and intelligence sharing,” the release said.
As chairman of the joint intelligence committee in the Prime Minister’s office, he coordinated the agencies to meet the intelligence needs of the country.
The Narendra Modi government appointed Ravi as Centre’s interlocutor for Naga peace talks in August 2014, and later deputy national security advisor in October 2018. Ravi became governor of Nagaland in August 2019.
