Puducherry records highest number of single day Covid-19 cases in 2021 | Puducherry News – Times of India

PUDUCHERRY: The Union territory of Puducherry on Thursday recorded the highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases in a day in 2021 with 293 people testing positive for the infection.
Healthcare authorities said 113 patients recovered in the last 24 hours as of 10am on Thursday taking the total number of active cases to 2,000. Of 2,000 cases, 1,510 are under home isolation and treatment.
Puducherry headquarters reported the maximum fresh cases with 181 followed by Karaikal (87), Mahe (15) and Yanam (10). Puducherry headquarters has the maximum active cases with 1,408 followed by Karaikal (487), Mahe (67) and Yanam (38).
The territory did not report any Covid-19 death, and the toll stood at 687. Puducherry has the maximum fatalities with 554 followed by Karaikal (77), Yanam (45) and Mahe (11). The fatality rate of infection stood at 1.6%.
The territory has so far reported 43,242 cases of which 40,555 patients recovered registering a recovery rate of 93.8%.
Healthcare authorities have so far sent 6.89 lakh swab samples for testing of which 6.33 lakh samples returned negative. The positivity rate of the samples (3,451) tested on Thursday stood at 8.5%.
The Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services administered Covid-19 vaccine to 51 healthcare workers, 11 frontline workers and 1,877 others on Wednesday. The directorate has so far administered the vaccine to 28,393 healthcare workers, 16,302 frontline workers and 40,059 others – a total of 84,754 people.
