Puducherry may start home delivery of liquor products | Puducherry News – Times of India

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry government has mooted the idea of launching door delivery of alcoholic beverages to the consumers within the territorial limits.
Secretary (relief and rehabilitation) and state executive committee member secretary Ashok Kumar while passing an order on Monday announcing a few relaxations in the lockdown norms including permitting the reopening of the liquor outlets directed the excise department to issue instructions for door delivery of liquor products within the Union territory following all existing norms to reduce the footfalls in the liquor shops.
“We directed the excise department to look into the options of home delivery of liquor to reduce overcrowding. It is under consideration. The existing rules must be amended to allow home delivery,” said an official.
The representatives of liquor wholesale and retail merchants’ association were not enthused over the government’s proposal. “Our clientele is mostly from the other states including TN, who visit the territory during the weekends to chill out. Door delivery of liquor products will not make any big difference,” said a representative.
