Puducherry: Active infections dip below 7,000, least in 45 days | Chennai News – Times of India

PUDUCHERRY: The number of active Covid-19 infections in Puducherry dropped below 7,000 on Wednesday, the lowest the Union territory has had in 45 days. The territory reported 642 fresh cases even as 932 patients recovered in the 24 hours ending 10am on Wednesday, bringing down active cases to 6,853. The last time active cases in the UT were less than 7,000 was on April 24 (6,767).
Of the 6,853 people undergoing treatment, 5,788 are under home isolation. Puducherry headquarters reported the maximum fresh cases on Wednesday with 496 followed by Karaikal (110), Yanam (22) and Mahe (14). Puducherry headquarters also has the maximum active cases with 5,261 followed by enclaves Karaikal (1,220), Yanam (216) and Yanam (156).
Four patients died of the infection taking the death toll to 1,648 on Wednesday. Puducherry headquarters has the maximum fatalities with 1,322 followed by Karaikal (196), Yanam (99) and Mahe (31). The infection’s fatality rate stood at 1.5%, which is higher than the national average of 1.2%. The territory has so far reported 1.1 lakh cases with a recovery rate of 92.3%, which is lower than the national average of 94.6%. The positivity rate of the samples (8,516) tested on Wednesday stood at 7.5%.
Healthcare authorities have so far administered 2.97 lakh doses of vaccine against Covid-19 (including those who got the second dose).
