Post-Covid symptoms that you need to watch out for: What AIIMS chief said | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday said India has witnessed a steady decline in daily new Covid-19 cases since the last 17 days.
During a press briefing, the Centre said there has been 2.6 times increase in the number of Covid tests done in the past 15 weeks in the country along with a steady dip in the weekly positivity rate reported in the last two weeks.
However, AIIMS chief Randeep Guleria pointed out that several people who have recovered from the infection have observed post-Covid symptoms and there is a need to treat them as well.
“If your symptoms persist for 4 – 12 weeks, it is regarded as ongoing post-Covid acute syndrome. If symptoms are seen for more than 12 weeks, it is called post-Covid syndrome or long Covid,” the AIIMS chief said.
Here are the post-Covid symptoms that you need to watch out for:
-The most common post-Covid symptoms, Gulleria said, include difficulty in breathing. “Despite normal lung capacity some people find it difficult to walk and complain of chest pain, tightness and tiredness,” Guleria said.
-Some people also experience cough and high pulse for several weeks after recovering from Covid-19. “These common symptoms could be due to body’s immune system or body’s inflammatory response,” he said.
-Chronic fatigue syndrome is also seen in people who have recovered from Covid-19 where people complain of joint pain, fatigue, bodyache, headaches and it requires symptomatic treatment. “As recovery rate increases need to develop multidisciplinary post covid clinics,” the AIIMS chief said.
-There’s another symptom generally termed as ‘brain fog’ on social media, seen in Covid recovered who find difficulty in concentration, suffer from insomnia and depression.
-Rehabilitation is required for patients experiencing post-Covid-19 symptoms, multidisciplinary post-Covid clinics would have to be set up for this purpose, in line with increase in our recovery rate.
