Officials seize gold worth Rs 4 crore, arrest 2 at Chennai airport | Chennai News – Times of India


CHENNAI: Customs sleuths arrested two passengers, who arrived at the city airport from Dubai, and seized more than 8kg of gold worth about Rs 4 crore.
Asaithambi, 22, of Alathur and Viknesh, 26, of Puddukottai, were intercepted at the exit based on specific intelligence, a statement said. After examination and scanning of Asaithambi’s baggage, officials found two half cylinder gold plates of 24k purity and two circular gold plates of 24k purityconcealed in a juice extractor and a rice cooker. The total weight of the concealed gold found 5.9kg.
On examination of a food mincer and nebulizer in Viknesh’s check-in baggage, officials found 37 gold plates of 24K purity and 19 gold plates of 24K purity. The total gold recovered from Viknesh after extraction weighed 2.2kg, the release said. The two passengers were arrested and urther investigation is under progress.
