No proposal to bifurcate Tamil Nadu under consideration: Centre | India News – Times of India

CHENNAI: The Union government on Tuesday stated that no proposal to bifurcate any state in the country, including Tamil Nadu, was under its consideration.
Union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai gave a reply to this effect to MPs T R Paarivendhar and S Ramalingam in Lok Sabha. “Presently no such proposal is under consideration,” the minister said.
The members had sought to know if the government had any such proposal and the reason, purpose and motive for such bifurcation and if the government had received any demand from any individual or organisation for bifurcating any state in the country, including Tamil Nadu.
Rai said the demands and representations were received from time to time from various individuals and organisations for creation of new states. “Creation of a new state has wide ramifications and direct bearing on the federal polity of our country,” the minister said.
The Union government would move on the matter of formation of new states after taking all relevant factors into consideration.
The questions from Tamil Nadu MPs came in the wake of recent controversy over BJP mentioning on its list of newly inducted Union ministers that former BJP state president L Murugan hailed from “Kongu Nadu.” The DMK and the Congress accused the BJP of making attempts to bifurcate the state while Murugan clarified later that it was a ‘clerical mistake.’
