Mumbai rains: Flood-like situation in parts of Kalyan, Bhiwandi and Badlapur after rivers overflow | Thane News – Times of India


KALYAN: Due to overnight heavy rains in Thane district, flood-like situations have risen especially near riverside areas. Ulhas, Waldhuni and Kamwari rivers have crossed dangerous levels and water entered into the houses of those living near the rivers, forcing lakhs of people to leave their homes and move to safer places nearby.
Many areas of Kalyan such as Shahad, Yogi Dham, Bhavani Nagar, Anupam Nagar, Kalyan-Murbad Road, Gholap Nagar are flooded due to the rise in the water level of the Waldhuni river, while many areas of Badlapur located near Ulhas river like Hendrapada, Valivali, Barraj road, Rayta and Maharal were submerged in water.
In Bhiwandi, Kamvari river also overflowed and water entered into houses people living near the river.
The locals from affected areas have shifted into housing colonies while those on the ground floor have shifted to upper floors of the same buildings. Looking at the situation, all locals civic bodies, as well as the district administration, have deployed their teams for the rescue operations.
Sanjay Gupta, a resident from Bhavani Nagar slum area said, “Water level in Waldhuni river started increasing suddenly on Thursday early morning and water entered into my house. We have shifted into nearby building.”
Locals living near these areas, recalled the floods of July 2019 when the same situation arose.
