MUMBAI: A 40-year-old police constable died by suicide at his residence in Andheri East on Sunday while his family was out visiting relatives for Raksha Bandhan.
The motive is not clear so far as no suicide note was found. MIDC police have recorded an accidental death case.
Suresh Chavan was posted at Mumbra police station. He lived at Marol in Andheri East with his wife and their two children, aged eight and 10 years.
On Sunday, Chavan was alone at home after his wife and kids left for Raksha Bandhan celebrations. In the evening, his brother visited him around 6.30 pm and knocked at the door.
But Chavan wouldn’t answer.
Worried, his brother forced the door open only to find Chavan hanging from the ceiling fan. He rushed the cop to the Holy Spirit Hospital in Andheri, where doctors pronounced him dead at 7.45 pm.
