MSEDCL chairman announces ‘paid leave’ & financial assistance for Covid positive staffers | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: MSEDCL chairman and managing director Vijay Singhal on Tuesday announced medical and financial assistance to employees infected by Covid-19. The state power distribution utility has around 54,000 employees who will benefit.
“They are working 24×7 and risking lives by providing uninterrupted supply to consumers — be it residential, commercial or agriculture — during this dangerous second wave of Corona pandemic. Many have climbed electric poles amid gusty wind and heavy rains during the latest cyclone,” he said, adding, “The employees who get infected by the virus will now get paid leave for the period he/she is undertaking treatment or is in isolation. Also, all employees in Class III and Class IV will be given Rs 1000 for purchasing sanitizer kits,” Singhal said. On Tuesday, a senior official, who was involved in cyclone-affected areas in Kalyan/Vasai for power restoration, was found Covid positive.
A circular was issued on Tuesday for giving medical and financial security to staffers. It mentioned : “The employees who are taking treatment in the hospital will be given Rs 50, 000 advance and the employees those who are at home/institutional quarantine will get Rs 25,000 advance. The families of employees who lost their lives due to Covid-19 will receive Rs 30 lakh ex-gratia and Rs. 20 lakh insurance, which is a total Rs 50 lakh disbursement.”
“This will be applicable for all regular employees including trainees, and also the outsourced staffers and security guards,” a spokesperson from MSEDCL added.
