‘More than 1,500 Covid deaths from May to July in Dakshina Kannada’ | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: Former MLC and Congress leader Ivan D’Souza urged the district administration in Dakshina Kannada to conduct a fresh audit to ascertain, with greater degree of accuracy, the number of Covid-19 fatalities that the coastal district registered from May to July. D’Souza, who chaired a meeting of the Dakshina Kannada Congress’ Covid-19 helpline committee on Monday, said that, while the official tally put the number of those who succumbed to Covid-19 in the three-month period at 657, the actual number was likely to be upwards of 1,500.
“The fatalities have not been audited properly. The officials must also ascertain how many people died after being administered the vaccine. The state government has announced ex gratia of Rs 1 lakh to the kin of those who died of Covid-19, but no directions have been issued to the district administration regarding the distribution of the same. The district administration must compile a list of eligible beneficiaries,” D’Souza said.
