Maharashtra amends Covid-19 restrictions order; fruit vendors, security services, petrol pumps exempted as essential services

On the very first day of the restrictions imposed to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Maharashtra government amended its order and added Petrol pumps, government and private security services, and fruit vendors to the list of essential services.

On Sunday, the state government announced a weekend lockdown and night curfew (from 8 pm till 7 am) during the weekdays from Monday (April 5) to April 30, in addition to a slew of other restrictions like the closure of private offices, theatres and salons.

Today, the government amended the order and said that petrol pumps and petroleum-related products, cargo services, data centres, cloud service providers, IT services supporting critical infrastructure and services will also be considered as essential services in addition to the ones mentioned on Sunday.

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), offices of the SEBI recognised market infrastructure institutions like stock exchanges, depositors, clearing corporations and intermediaries registered with the SEBI, RBI regulated entities and intermediaries including standalone primary dealers, financial market participants operating in RBI regulated markets, all NBFCs, microfinance institutions will be allowed to remain open on all weekdays from 7 am to 8 pm, said the guidelines.

The amended order added that offices of advocates, custom house agents, licensed multi-nodal transport operators associated with the movement of vaccines, life-saving drugs and pharma products, will also be allowed to function.

“Persons arriving/ departing by Train/ Bus/ Flight during 8 PM to 7 AM or on weekends may travel to the Airport/ Bus Station/ Train Station or back home from the same on the basis of a valid ticket. Industrial Workers travelling by private buses/ private vehicle may be allowed to travel on the basis of an identity card from 8 PM to 7 AM and during weekends to attend his/ her shift,” reads the notification.

It further said that any student requiring to attend the examination physically will be allowed to travel to the examination centre or back home after 8 pm or on weekends subject to carrying a valid hall ticket.

With regard to weddings that are scheduled to be held on weekends and allowing domestic help/ drivers/ cooks to work past 8 PM and/ or on weekends, the local disaster management authority to decide upon the same based on the local situation.

On Sunday, the government had announced that except for the essential services shops, medical shops, and grocery shops, all other shops, markets and shopping malls will remain shut till April 30.
