Madurai railway station eatery refunds Rs 15 to customer for selling bottled water without receipt | Madurai News – Times of India

MADURAI: After buying a one-litre water bottle, a young woman was leaving an eatery on platform number one of the Madurai Junction railway station on Sunday night to catch a train. She was stopped by Naresh Salecha, the member (finance) in the Railway Board, to check if she was given a receipt for her purchase. The woman said that she had bought it for Rs 15 and that she had not got a receipt.
“Food is free if no receipt is provided,” Naresh told the customer, pointing out at the signboard announcing the same. Saying so, he made the employee at the eatery provide her a receipt and also refund the Rs 15 she had paid for the water bottle. He warned the stall to ensure that they don’t repeat the mistake, else face stringent action.
The member said that such boards have been put up at all the stalls at railway stations across the country and asked the senior officials of Madurai Railway Division who accompanied him. Inspecting the non-vegetarian kitchen, he asked the staff there to maintain it clean.
Naresh inspected the waiting hall and toilets, CCTV monitoring room, foot over bridges, parcel room and other passenger amenities and development works in the Madurai junction. He inquired about the redevelopment plan of the junction and went through the blueprint. Divisional railway manager V R Lenin and station director cum divisional commercial manager D L Ganesh were among officials present during the inspection.
The railway board member, who had inspected construction of the new Pamban railway bridge between Mandapam and Pamban a couple of days ago, said there was no fund constraint in constructing the bridge. Stating that the bridge is an important one for the railways and in the safety perspective, he added that it might be completed between March and June, next year.
He also chaired a meeting with the divisional officers on the status of ongoing projects.
