CHENNAI: DMK president and chief minister-designated M K Stalin was on Tuesday unanimously elected as the leader of the legislature party.
A total of 125 DMK MLAs and eight MLAs of alliance parties, who contested on the DMK symbol, attended a meeting at Kalaignar Hall on the premises of Anna Arivalayam around 6.30pm to elect Stalin as the legislature party leader.
DMK general secretary and Katpadi MLA S Durai Murugan proposed Stalin as the legislature party leader. It was accepted by the MLAs and a resolution was passed.
Party insiders said Stalin would call on governor Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday to stake claim to form the next government in Tamil Nadu. Swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Bhavan on May 7.
