IMD upgrades to red alert warning for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded from an orange alert warning to red alert on Wednesday in Mumbai. The weather department predicted extremely heavy rain’ at isolated places in the Maximum City during the day.
The weather bureau also sounded a red alert for Thane, Palghar and Raigad predicting extremely heavy rains at isolated places for Wednesday.
However, an orange alert has been raised for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for Thursday. The IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rains at few places in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on July 22. A red alert is raised for Raigad on Thursday with a warning of extremely heavy rains at isolated places.
Meanwhile, scientist KS Hosalikar tweeted, “Mumbai, Thane and adjoining areas recorded some intense spells of rains in the last three hours with rainfall amt exceeding 40+mm at few places. Radar, satellite observation confirm that intense spells could continue. Watch for warnings, updates by IMD. As per IMD Mumbai, Thane and adjoining areas will see increased rainfall.”
On Wednesday, heavy rains lashed Mumbai and adjoining areas leading to waterlogged roads and traffic snarls.
