Have taken Hangal byelection loss very seriously: Karnataka CM Basavaraja Bommai | Mysuru News – Times of India

MYSURU/ MANDYA: Chief minister Basavaraja Bommai stated that in the Hanagal byelection, party candidates didn’t get votes at the expected level. However, he made it clear that he has taken this setback seriously and all the corrections required will be done.
“ In Sindagi, we won with a huge margin. We were are not able to get the vote at the level of late MLA CM Udasi. It is the first reason. Secondly, people supported Congress candidate Srinivas Mane for his works in the constituency for the last two-three years including at the time of Covid-19. So, we are defeated. I am accepting the defeat. Party leaders and workers worked very hard for the victory in the Hangal constituency. I thank all of them,” he said.
When CM was reminded that it was the first byelection after he became the chief minister, he stated that victory and defeats are common in an election.
“In Nanjangud and Gundlupet byelections, Congress had won. But in the general election, Congress lost. Elections are fought on the prevailing issues at the local level at the time of voting. It is not the verdict about the entire state,” he said.
“We are preparing for the general election. We take Hangal defeat as seriously as Sindagi’s byelection victory. We will convert the defeat into victory both politically and administratively,” he said.
On allegations that money and muscle power won in Sindagi, he stated that such statements are standard format statements. “It is not possible to win an election without people’s support,” he added.
