GURUGRAM: An executive of a private company was arrested on Thursday for allegedly issuing fake police verification certificates to domestic helps, security guards, tenants and people working in private companies.
According to the police, the man has been identified as Punit, who used fake police stamp to issue these certificates and charged between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000. “He has been committing this crime for the past one year. We recovered 21 fake certificates from his house during the raid,” an officer said.
Elaborating about the modus operandi, the station house officer (SHO) of Sector 18 police station, Sudhir Kumar, said Punit used to login to police websites and fill verification forms for tenants, domestic helps, security guards, company employees etc. as per the demand. He used to then take out prints of those forms and put a fake police stamp and signature. He used to then give it to the customers and pass it to be a genuine certificate.
Investigation officer ASI Mohan Puri said, “None of the verification forms were actually submitted at the police stations and therefore we have no records. We are trying to find out how many such certificates were issued by Punit and if any one of them have a police record,” he said.
An FIR was registered at Sector 18 police station on Wednesday under sections 255 (counterfeit), 465 (forgery), 467 (forges a document), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using forged document) of the IPC. “We arrested Punit on Thursday and have kept him in police custody.
