MUMBAI: The rates of fuel in the country were hiked once again on Thursday, pushing the prices of petrol and diesel in Mumbai to new highs.
With an increase of 34 paise, the price of one litre of petrol surged to Rs 107.54 in the metropolis, from the previous Rs 107.20.
The rate of diesel also went up by around 16 paise. A litre of diesel now costs Rs 97.45 in the financial capital.
The hike in the rates of fuel came in after a gap of two days. The last surge was reported on Monday, July 12.
Mumbai had crossed the Rs 100/litre mark for petrol on May 29.
Fuel prices have so far been increased 40 times since May 1 and have remained unchanged on 36 days.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has launched a 10-day nationwide agitation against the skyrocketing fuel prices starting July 7. Protests are being held at several places across the city, as well as in neighbouring areas like Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli and Ulhasnagar.
Several leaders, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, have raised concerns over the rising prices of petrol and diesel.
