CHENNAI: Sushma Swaraj’s daughter Bansuri has taken exception to DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin using her mother’s name to take potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“@udhaystalin ji please do not use my Mother’s memory for your poll propaganda! Your statements are false! PM @Narendramodi ji bestowed utmost respect and honour on my Mother. In our darkest hour PM and Party stood by us rock solid! Your statement has hurt us,” Bansuri Swaraj tweeted on Thursday night.
She was reacting to Udhayanidhi’s campaign speech in Dharapuram on Wednesday during which he alleged that Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley had died “unable to handle the pressure and torture of Modi”. Udhayanidhi, in turn, was reacting to Modi’s attack on him on Tuesday.
“The uncrowned prince (Udhayanidhi) has sidelined several senior leaders in the DMK to come up,” Modi said on Tuesday at Dharapuram, while stressing the fact that the DMK is a family- run party. He was addressing a public meeting in support of BJP state president L Murugan.
Arriving to campaign at Dharapuram on Wednesday morning, Udhayanidhi sought to settle scores. “From being the chief minister of Gujarat, Modi successfully sidelined several senior leaders like L K Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi to get to this post. While another senior leader Yashwant Sinha has left the party, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley died unable to handle the pressure and torture of Modi,” Udhayanidhi said, specifically addressing the women in the crowd.
“Now Modi says I have taken a short route to come up in the party. I am not afraid and am ready to face anything. I am a creation of the self-respect movement and the grandson of Kalaignar (M Karunanidhi). I am not a BJP leader or an Edappadi (K) Palaniswami or O Panneerselvam to be cowed down by your threats,” Udhayanidhi had said.
