Diwali: Two lakh people have left Chennai in govt buses | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: More than two lakh people have left Chennai in government buses for their native places to celebrate Diwali.
The state transport department has operated close to 4,785 buses in the last 48 hours to transport these people, according to an official release on Tuesday.
Another 3,500 odd buses are scheduled to depart from Chennai to various parts of the state on Wednesday. As many as 1.05 lakh people had reserved their bus tickets thus far in this Diwali season, the release said.
The state-owned transport corporations have earned Rs 5.4 crore through reservations.
A total of 12 booking counters have been set up at various locations in the city.
People who want to book tickets in TNSTC and SETC buses can either log on to the official site (www.tnstc.in) or use mobile apps like RedBus or Paytm.

After inspecting arrangements at Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu on Tuesday, transport minister R S Rajakannapan reiterated that strict action would be taken against private omnibuses which collected excess fare. Eight buses had been seized and penalised, he said.
