Delhi Metro resume operations; restaurants, gym reopen in Mumbai: Unlocking begins in some states | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Several states and Union territories have now begun easing restrictions amid continuous decline in Covid cases in the country.
India on Monday reported 1,00,636 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest in 61 days, and 2,427 fatalities. The weekly positivity rate has also declined to 6.21 per cent.

The number of active cases has also reduced to 14,01,609, comprising 4.85 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 93.94 per cent.
Here’s how some states have begun unlocking:
The Delhi Metro resumed services on Monday after a hiatus of four weeks in view of the improved Covid-19 situation in the national capital, albeit with 50 per cent seating capacity and no provision for standing travel for commuters.
Shops in markets and malls reopened in Delhi on Monday, and other economic activities like registration of properties, offices also resumed after nearly one and a half months.
Although shops, including standalone and liquor vends, reopened in the city, cinemas, theatres, restaurants (except home delivery and take away), bars, gyms, spas, barber shops, salons, beauty parlours and weekly markets will remain closed till further orders. Meanwhile, vehicles crawled on many road stretches as the volume of traffic increased following the relaxation of restrictions.
Restaurants, gyms, salons, public grounds and other commercial establishments reopened after nearly two months on Monday in Mumbai, which falls in level-3 of the Maharashtra government’s five-level ‘unlock plan’.

Buses of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), the city civic body’s transport wing, were allowed to ferry passengers with 100 per cent seating capacity, though local trains were restricted for those working in medical and essential services.
BMC also appealed to citizens not to let their guard down and follow all precautions to check the spread of Covid-19.
Tamil Nadu:
Easing of lockdown restrictions came into force in Tamil Nadu with reopening of shops, including standalone outlets dealing in provision and vegetables after a two week gap, while road traffic saw a sharp increase.
Government offices, including Sub-Registrar’s offices, resumed work with 30 per cent employees, local markets teemed with people to buy essential commodities, while workers like electricians too got back to work here.
Though public and private buses continued to be off the roads, railways began operating additional suburban ‘workmen special trains’ here in view of the easing of curbs. Autorickshaws and cab services made a comeback, albeit with relatively poor patronage.
The Punjab government allowed shops to open till 6 pm while adopting a graded approach to reopening. Night curfew will now remain in force from 7 pm to 6 am on weekdays, including Saturdays, but weekend curfew will continue on Sundays.
Sports training for national and international events has also been permitted and the department of Sports and Youth Affairs has been asked to issue the necessary instructions and guidelines, which shall have to be strictly adhered to.
