Delhi: Jamia pays tribute to Danish Siddiqui | Delhi News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Several students of Jamia Millia Islamia assembled at the varsity gates for a candlelight vigil to pay respects to Pulitzer prize-winning photojournalist, Danish Siddiqui, who died in Afghanistan on Friday. Several students put candles next to pictures of Siddiqui, a former student at Jamia’s AJK MCRC.
Earlier in the day, vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar visited Siddiqui’s family, including his father, Akhtar Siddiqui, a former dean at Jamia. “Danish’s death is a loss not only to his family and Jamia fraternity but the whole country,” she said.
The VC also said that the university would organise a condolence meeting on campus on Tuesday and hold an exhibition of Siddiqui’s work soon. Members of the Jamia alumni were also part of the vigil on Saturday. In a statement they said, “Many of us have received his guidance and support both at the university, where he returned frequently for interactions, and on the field.”
