bjp: BJP to intensify stir across Tamil Nadu to keep temples open | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: The BJP will intensify its protest across Tamil Nadu if the government refused to open temples to devotees on all days, party state president K Annamalai said on Thursday. By a government order, temples in the state remain closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
“We give ten days for the government to roll back its illconceived order. If they don’t do it, we will take to the streets,” said Annamalai after heading the demonstration in front of Kalikambal temple which comes under the Harbour assembly constituency represented by HR&CE minister P K Sekar Babu. Annamalai said the DMK government is trying to push its ideology into people’s personal space and faith in the name of Covid-19 preventive measures.
Senior BJP leaders including national women wing president and Coimbatore South constituency MLA Vanathi Srinivasan and party floor leader Nainar Nagendran took part in demonstrations in front of 12 temples in the state. Annamalai said temples see large gatherings on weekdays since they remain closed on weekends. It defeats the logic of Covid prevention, he said, suggesting that the government come up with an SOP and restrict movements of the devotees at temples all day. The same approach can be adopted for all religious institutions, including mosques and churches.
On the government decision to convert gold jewels offered by devotees into gold bars, the BJP leader said it was an “ill-conceived move” which is against law. The party would approach the Madras high court.
