CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Tuesday sought a report from Chennai district election officer on a complaint from AIADMK against DMK Chepauk-Triplicane candidate Udhayanidhi Stalin. The AIADMK sought Udhayanidhi’s disqualification for violation of poll code.
“We have asked for a report. Action will be taken based on the report from the DEO, Chennai,” Sahoo said.
The AIADMK advocate wing said Udhyanidhi had visited a polling booth at SIET college, sporting the party symbol and flag on his shirt. “It is a blatant violation of code of conduct. It is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years under the Representation of the People Act,” the petition said, urging the CEO to file a criminal case against the DMK leader and disqualify him.
None shall campaign for the party, candidate and symbol after the campaign ended, but Udhyanidhi sported party symbol on his shirt to divert the attention of the public and electors and change their mindset, it said.
