15 students, 6 teachers in Tamil Nadu test Covid-19 positive | Trichy News – Times of India

TRICHY/ COIMBATORE/ CUDDALORE: More school students continue to test positive for Covid-19 ever since the schools reopened for the physical mode of classes on September 1. On Monday, authorities revealed that at least 15 school students and six teachers from various parts of the state were tested positive.
While some of the students were tested positive after showing symptoms, a majority were identified through the random testing conducted at the schools. Institutions that reported multiple cases were closed while schools that reported singular cases continued to operate after sanitisation.
In Coimbatore, eight students from four government schools and one private school have tested positive. District chief education officer in Coimbatore, N Geetha said all schools will continue to function except for the Sulthanpet government high school where three students tested positive, which was closed for three days from Monday. The classmates of the students who tested positive were asked to stay home and attend online classes for a few days. Officials from the health department said that they will continue to carry out random testing among school students.
In Tiruvarur, four students, all from different government schools near Tiruvarur, Mannargudi and Thiruthuraipoondi, tested positive. The health department, however, refused to divulge information about how the students were tested. In Trichy, a Class XII student of a private CBSE school near Rettaivaikkal showed symptoms on the reopening day and was sent back home to undergo testing. On Monday, the school education department confirmed that the girl was positive, the private school will be closed for five days from Monday. In Pudukkottai, a Class X girl near Karamabakudi was tested positive after displaying symptoms. She did not attend the school for the past three working days, yet the school will be sanitised and supervised by a health team, officials said. In Cuddalore district, a student in Neyveli town was tested positive, thus taking the total number of students infected to 15 on Monday. Until Sunday, three students from Ariyalur and one student from Namakkal and two from Thanjavur district have tested positive.
In Karur, a government school teacher was tested positive. As she had symptoms on Thursday, she did not attend school since then. Similarly, four teachers tested positive in Tirupur district. One of them had tested positive a few days back but the information surfaced only now. A headmaster of a government higher secondary school in Kallakurichi was tested positive on Monday. Ten staff who were in contact with him were told to isolate themselves and get tested if there were symptoms.
